On Friday, April 27, 2007, Northern Michigan University hosted “Pathways to Your Future - Career Choices” for approximately 715 Alger and Marquette county high school juniors. This event is co hosted yearly by Northern Michigan University, Lake Superior Community Partnership, and Marquette Alger Regional Educational Service Agency. Students were welcomed by Mark Evans and Walt Lindala from WKQS Sunny 102. Concurrent career session presentations were held afterward in several Jamrich Hall classrooms. Career Day activities provided area high school juniors opportunities to investigate career choices. Information gained will be instrumental for them in choosing classes to take in their senior year of high school. It can also be used to make informed decisions on what type of advanced training to pursue beyond high school. The students expressed career interests based on the six Michigan Career Pathways: arts and communication; business, management, and marketing technology; engineering, manufacturing, and industrial technologies; health sciences; human services; and natural resources and agriscience. Additional information on Career Pathways may be accessed by clicking here. Volunteers from business, government and community organizations presented information regarding specific job skills, training, and an overview of opportunities in their careers. Students from the following high schools attended the event: Burt Township, Gwinn, INN-Adult Ed Services, Ishpeming, Marquette, Marquette Alternative, Munising, Munising Alternative, Negaunee, North Star, Republic-Michigamme, Superior Central, and Westwood.
