Northern Michigan University hosted “Pathways to Your Future - Career Choices” for approximately 622 Alger and Marquette county high school juniors on Friday, April 28, in Jamrich Hall.
Students were welcomed by Mark Evans and Walt Lindala from WKQS Sunny 102. Concurrent career sessions were held afterward in several classrooms.
This event provided area high school juniors with an opportunity to investigate career choices. Information gained will be instrumental for them in choosing classes to take in their senior year of high school. It can also be used to make informed decisions on what type of advanced training to pursue beyond high school.
The students expressed career interests based on the six Michigan Career Pathways: arts and communication; business, management, and marketing technology; engineering, manufacturing, and industrial technologies; health sciences, natural resources and agriscience, and human services. Additional information on Career Pathways may be accessed by clicking here.
Volunteers from business, government and community organizations presented information regarding specific job skills, training, and an overview of opportunities in their careers.
Students from the following high schools attended the event: Burt Township, Gwinn, INN-Adult Ed Services, Ishpeming, Marquette, Marquette Alternative, Munising, Munising Alternative, Negaunee, North Star, Republic-Michigamme, Superior Central, and Westwood.
