Pathways To Your Future – Career Choices, part three of a three-part program sponsored jointly by Marquette Alger Regional Educational Service Agency and the office of Vocational Support Services at Northern Michigan University, was held on Friday, April 23, 2004.

Part one of the program was a presentation given to members of The Superior Counselor’s Association on Friday, November 7, 2003.  These counselors, representing students in all Alger and Marquette County schools, identified high school sophomores as the target group for the planned career activity.  After viewing the presentation, counselors scheduled individual visits to their schools which engaged part two of the program.

Part two of the program involved individual visits to high schools giving a career pathways presentation to all sophomores (view the presentation).  In all, approximately 500 students were exposed to the pathways information.  Completion of the school visits lead to part three of the program.

Part three of the program involved 370 high school sophomores from 12 schools attending a career day activity at NMU’s College of Technology and Applied Sciences (Jacobetti Center).  Included in the count, 32 students from L'Anse high school visited and only participated in viewing the hallway displays.

Thanks to high school counselors and teachers, numerous NMU faculty and staff, community resource professionals, and thirty NMU students, career day was a success.  The amount of volunteer help in coordinating this event was invaluable.

A synopsis of the April 23^rd activity follows.  The tables below identify the schools involved and the amount of students allotted from each school.  Students had to express a specific interest in a diploma, certificate, or associates degree program and identify their chosen career pathway.  The pathways that students identified can be found in the tables as well.
