Troubleshooting tips for connecting the NMU ThinkPad to the ceiling LCD projector.

USING A LAPTOP (Your laptop should be fully booted)

I can’t get a picture…

a.  Is the black-colored computer cable found on the teaching station hooked up to the corresponding black S-VGA connection found on the left-hand side of your laptop?
b.  Is the ceiling projector on (it will cast light on the screen)?
c.  Is the ceiling projector’s input set to “RGB 1” using the input button on its remote control?
d.  Do you have your laptop set to send a signal to the ceiling projector?  This is done by pressing the “Fn” & “F7” keys on your laptop's keyboard (toggle up to three times holding down the “Fn” key the entire time while clicking the “F7” key until the computer image appears both on the laptop and up on the classroom’s pull-down screen).

I can’t get the audio to feed to the ceiling speakers…

a.  Is the audio cable found on the teaching station hooked up to the headphones jack found on the side of your laptop?
b.  Is the black-colored amplifier found in the shelf of the teaching station on (a red light will appear)?
c.  Is the amplifier’s input set to “COMPUTER” or "LAPTOP" (as opposed to "VIDEO")?
d.  Do you have your laptop’s volume control and the amplifier’s volume control turned up significantly?

USING A DVD/VHS VIDEO PLAYER (your player should be turned on)

 TURNING OFF EQUIPMENT

a.  Is the ceiling projector off?  - You must hold the power button located on the projector's remote control for at least two seconds pointed directly up at the ceiling projector.  Even after the projector is turned off, the fan will continue to run for a few minutes.
b.  Is the amplifier off? - The
red  light will disappear when the amplifier power button is pressed.
c.  Is the DVD/VHS player turned off?

d.
Is the main power switch off? - Some of NMU's smart classrooms have a master power switch located on the wall-mounted patch panel.  The  yellow  light will disappear when the switch is turned off.
