HELPFUL TIP when playing DVDs in your Lenovo R61 ThinkPad: first try to play them with Windows Media Player.  If you end up with a black screen, try InterVideo WinDVD. Windows Media Player plays commercially-pressed DVDs well. InterVideo WinDVD plays DVD-R discs well. Unless you re-image your R61, DVD-Rs will not play on Windows Media Player, nor will commercially-produced DVDs play on InterVideo WinDVD without extra tweaking.
